Grass root motorsport sponsorship
The Abarth brand has been back with us since 2008, the Fiat 500 Abarth is the award winning model that has found many new fans in the form of car enthusiasts wanting to express their individuality through their choice of car. Abarth has taken the Fiat 500 supermini and redeveloped it to produce 135bhp, it can do 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds and has a top speed of 128mph.
Abarth has always been involved in grass root motorsports, this year it has announced a sponsorship deal with The Karting Challenge which is a leading karting championship that helps develop grass root motorsport in the UK.
The karting challenge, which takes place at Teesside Autodrome, will be jointly supported by Abarth Cars UK and SG Petch, the York-based Abarth dealership. The championship has been named “SG Petch Abarth 2011 Karting Open Championship”
The motorsport arm of Fiat Group Automobiles UK will be the main sponsor at the end of season prize-giving dinner. Abarth will be supporting the series by providing an Assetto Corse 500 race car in which the Championship winner will be offered an official track test day. This taste of an Abarth may also help sell more used Fiat in Southampton.
Ivan Gibson the head of Abarth UK was very excited about the championship and said, “Abarth and SG Petch are delighted to be involved in this exciting series as it allows us to support grass roots racing – the heart of everything we do. Teesside Autodrome is a wonderful venue which lends itself perfectly to karting and I’m sure we can expect a fine season of racing there.”
