CPR Steps To Success
CPR steps are not only easy to follow but classes are available everywhere from your local medical center to online. Yet few people have achieved their CPR certification. Why? What would you do if someone collapsed in front of you? If they suffered a cardiac arrest and you were the only person nearby wouldn’t you wish you had learned basic life support?
The three things that probably stand in most peoples way are:
Fear of being sued!
Fear is a huge factor. You could be afraid of being sued if you helped a victim and they died or perhaps they lived but suffered brain damage. The chances of you being successfully sued for helping someone by performing CPR are nil to none. Everyone knows that if you have a cardiac arrest you probably do not have time to spare. if the witnesses wait for the emergency services to arrive and this takes longer than five minutes your family are probably going to be preparing for your funeral.
Fear of being laughed at!
Some people are so worried about what others will think of them that they cant do a CPR class for fear they will make a mistake. This is really silly as the whole room will be full of other people who are probably just as nervous but are there for the same important reason. They want to reduce the horrific numbers of people who die from cardiac arrest each and every year.
Fear of infection
This is a big one. People are scared of catching HIV and Aids from infected people. There are no known cases of someone catching this illness via CPR. In fact the chances of catching any infection are very low. Some people don’t feel comfortable giving another person the so called kiss of life. If this is the case you can do chest only compressions. This form of CPR is relatively new and the idea behind it is to provide the public with a way to do CPR that is easy to learn but also effective. The hope is that more people will gain the knowledge to save a life if they witness someone having a cardiac arrest.
There are all sorts of reasons why people don’t do things. Often it takes a near death experience to change our perception but this is dangerous. We could be playing with the lives of our families and friends.
