March 10th, 2011 is National Women and Girls HIV/AIDS Awareness Day….in honor of this day LIC-Ladies in Charge is launching a national campaign that encourages HIV/AIDS testing for women and girls of color entitled-
“HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW”?

HOW COULD YOU NOT KNOW CAMPAIGN
The “How Could You Not Know” (HCYNK) campaign is a HIV/AIDS awareness effort designed to educate the public- in particular, women of color — about HIV/AIDS and it’s impact on the community. HCYNK is an outgrowth of the overwhelming statistics as it relates to HIV/AIDS and women of color.

The HCYNK Campaign goal is to educate, advocate, and increase awareness of the HIV/AIDS Epidemic as it relates to women of color. Also, the establishment of a network to serve as support to women of color in terms of testing and knowing their status as it relates to HIV/AIDS. The HCYNK Support Network is a national initiative.

Specific goals include:
1. To generate support from physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, mental health professionals, CDC, Aids.gov. and numerous national entities, governmental and nongovernmental, that can donate volunteer hours, services, testing services and kits, and economic support in the form of donations, sponsorship, and partnerships to the How Could You Not Know Campaign for women of color.

2. To increase the number of women of color who seek testing and support to be in the know as it related to HIV/AIDS . To have 1 million women of color complete an online membership to a online network that encourages testing and knowing. This on-line network/community would serve as a one stop shop for information and support to women of color and the epidemic of HIV/AIDS of this targeted population. (2 year goal)

3. To increase the awareness of young women of color in the following areas: HIV/AIDS Basics, Prevention, Testing, Support Services, and STAYING IN THE KNOW.

The HCYNK campaign’s primary mission is to encourage and foster an environment among women of color that supports being in the know about HIV/AIDS. Until we as women of color gain a certain modicum of comfort as it relates to the HIV/AIDS Epidemic, the topic on a national and global level will continue to be as foreign as China. Basic Level Communication, Support, Testing, and Empowerment of women of color at the national level to Stay in the know regarding their HIV/AIDS status is the goal in its totality.
