The RS4 – What a car!

Last Sunday Jeremy Clarkson did a piece on the BMW M3 and the RS4 that reignited my love for the RS4. As Clarkson put it there is not much out there that can beat the BMW M3, on the Top gear test track it was faster than the RS4 but even then I love the RS4.

The BMW M3 has been with us since 1986, the current model is a 4.0 litre V8 producing 414 BHP, it can do 0-62 mph in 3.9 seconds and continue on to an electronically restricted 155mph. Because of its phenomenal power, reliability, sporty looks and affordable price tag the M3 has become very popular and is common around town.

The Audi RS4 has only been around since 2000, the current RS4 has a 4.2 litre V8 engine that produces 420bhp and can do 0-62mph in 4.5 seconds. It too is electronically limited to 155mph, although a top speed of 170mph has been unofficially recorded. Historically Audi has always produced RS models in limited quantities, making the RS4 more exclusive than the M3 as well as other high performance saloons.

The Audi Rs4 is available as a 4 door saloon, an Avant (estate) and a cabriolet, if I had a choice I would go for a black RS4 convertible with a dark maroon roof. Inside I would go for the black nappa leather with red stitching.

The M3 is a great car, a beautiful car and probably a better car all round than the RS4 but, I prefer the exclusivity of the Audi. I am going to head down to the car supermarket in Kings Lynn to see if I can get myself a test drive in one.
