Ford Cars
The Ford brand is an American manufacturer based in Detroit. It is the fifth largest manufacturer in the world. It has provided some iconic cars since its incorporation in 1903 and I wanted to take a look at some of my favourites.
Firstly lets take a look at the Ford Focus Kent Ford Cortina. This car was manufactured between 1962-1982 and was extremely popular on the British Market, winning it the title as the best selling car of the 1970s. My father was a fan of the Ford Cortina and had owned three generations. I remember the Mark V the best as I was only born in 1976. He owned it in Navy blue and my grandfather had the same in chocolate brown.
Love it or hate it, the Ford Capri was definitely Iconic. After the success of the Mustang in America. the Capri was designed to appeal to the British Market. It was to look sporty and sexy and to appeal to young people. The advertising slogan in Europe was “The car you always promised yourself” but in America it was “Capri: The Sexy European”. Del-Boy in the sitcom “Only Fools and Horses” drove a Capri and often referred to it as his CAPri!
Following on from the Capri was the Ford Probe which was designed to fill the market niche, once occupied by Capri. The Ford Probe was not a popular car. It did not sell well. But I loved it. In my opinion it looked futuristic and a lot more fun than some of Fords other cars.
Ford has stood the test of time. It produced the world’s first successful mass-produced car with its Model T car. I think part of its success is that it covers a large market. Young persons first car, family car or retirement car. Ford seems to have it all.
