Getting Older, but Looking Younger
There is an old adage that goes, “Growing old is inevitable, but growing up is optional.” Well, maybe – but most of us do grow up as
we grow older. The objective is not to stay young and frivolous, but to have the opportunity to celebrate a lot of birthdays without
looking old and feeble.
I heard some guru on TV say, “50 is the new 30.” Do you think that might be true? I am kind of inclined to agree with the guru, but
not for the reasons he gave. The fact is that people are now so much more aware of what healthy eating consists of, and they are
far more aware that exercising and staying physically fit makes them look better and feel younger. More and more people are becoming
aware of the damage that the sun’s rays do to skin, too. Fewer people smoke cigarettes, and more people are aware that consuming large
quantities of alcohol ages the skin.
Personally, I wish that somebody would hurry up and discover the fountain of youth so that I could go back to eating big juicy steaks
and visit the gym less often – but I’m not holding my breath.
We’ve also discovered plastic surgery. There was a time when only the very wealthy could afford to have beauty procedures done, but
that is no longer the case. Today men and women who are certainly not wealthy can and do have face-lifts, eye-lifts, and other cosmetic
surgeries. Dermabrasion and chemical peels are relatively inexpensive.
It is really difficult to just look at somebody and make an accurate guess about how old they are. There are those who are 50 and
60 and older who are still physically fit and trim and who have few if any wrinkles.
