‘It was a grand party everything was so organized with every minute detail falling into place……’ most of us have encountered such statements whenever we attend such big parties or meetings or conferences etc. These jazzy parties or events are a creation of event management organizations that with the help of their expertise planners make the event near to success. But before that let us first know its meaning more closely, it is a process where in an event is planned and organized by experts called event managers, who properly allocate various resources of the host firm like time, money, products etc. for achieving its objectives. Every tiny detail of the event be it the size of the venue or colors of curtains, flowers etc. is given individual attention. The help of event management industries is sought not only by big corporate houses but at the same time by individuals for organizing meetings or simply a kitty party or birthday party, on the other side big budget road shows, press conferences or lavish weddings etc. Thus event management is in no way connected only to the term ‘big budget’.
The event management industries cover a wide scope so far. The basic prerequisite of an event that has to be organized is a proper planning. Planning serves as a base for the whole event. An individual or a company comes up with a vague ides, with a budget in hand, which the event management firms convert into a beautiful reality. The job of the event manager starts with the designing of the framework of the event as per the requirements of the host company. After that a market plan is made, sponsors, vendors etc. are selected and proper arrangements are made with respect to venue, time, decorations etc. They also have to make suitable contacts so as to make the event cost effective for the host. On the other hand they also have to manage every activity on the final day.
In the Indian context, the issue of event management has been in news for quite sometime now. Initially, the event management industries in India were limited in their extent and coverage. But with the growing living standards of the people, the demand for exotic and well organized events has increased considerably and this gave rise to a number of event management firms. Their services are not only limited to corporate firms or multinational organizations rather they also play a vital role in organizing both large scale and small scale public events and private parties.
In India, the future of event management is bright. The growing competitiveness coupled with technological advancement and immense money making opportunities makes event management a more preferred choice to opt it out as a career option by a number of young people.
