Broadcast Yourself Effectively on the Internet
Before signing up for a Ustream account, you must have a working internet connection, webcam, and microphone. Once you’ve purchased and installed all the software for your hardware, you are ready to get online!
First, go to Ustream TV to create a Ustream account. Once on the Ustream site, click on the “Sign Up” button across the top of the page to sign up for an account. Keep in mind that you should only fill in the required fields of the form to keep your personal information as safe as possible; required fields are usually noted by an asterisk (*). Once you log onto the site using your new username and password, you will be asked a few more validation questions before your account is officially activated.
To set up your show, use the html form builder that says click on the “Your Show” button across the top of your page. You will then be prompted to choose a name for your show. Be sure to “Save Your Show.” Once your show has been saved, you may click on the “Broadcast Now” button. This will take to you the broadcast console.
To begin broadcasting, simply click the “Broadcast Now” button. Some browsers require the most recent Adobe Flash to run your show and access your camera and microphone. Click the “Start Broadcast” button to begin a live broadcast or click “Start Record” to record and save a broadcast to your site. To stop your broadcast, simply click “Stop Broadcast” and/or “Stop Record.” After you’ve stopped your broadcast, you can play it back, delete or save it.
Some helpful things to remember while broadcasting live would include being professional, unless your particular show doesn’t call for that sort of mood. Also, there are multiple tools on your broadcasting console such as the option to poll your viewers for their input. There is also an Audience tool, which allows you to invite a Co-Host to or Let a Viewer pop into the window with their live broadcast as well.
