Fan pages and like buttons have gradually gained a lot of importance so much so that even automakers have jumped onto the bandwagon called social media.
None other than luxury carmaker Porsche 911 unveiled a special edition GT3 R Hybrid recently. The carmaker did so to mark crossing the milestone of reaching one million Facebook fans!

The Porsche in question is no ordinary deal. The GT3 Hybrid is powered by a powerful 4.0-litre flat six cylinder engine. It is a rear wheel drive and is tuned to generate upto 480bhp. The car’s electric front axle that draws power from an ingenious electric flywheel accumulator added some extra muscle by pitching in 160bhp. The all new hybrid system developed specially for use in a racing car has little in common with conventional hybrid systems as far as its design and componentry go. Porsche used this technology at last year’s Nurburgring 24hr race where it came very close to winning. The unique thing about this car is that it has signatures of 27,000 Facebook fans on its exterior which is white and blue in colour. It is most likely to be just an exhibition piece and is valuable to general public at the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart. The Hybrid 911 racer has been hand picked because it the one car that is that best represents the future of motorsport and so it has been adorned with the names of 27,000 Porsche fans.It is a very powerful car and thus becomes an obvious choice for Porsche to represent the support of its fans across the world.
