Upgraded, new and upcoming sedans

There is a spurt in the number of upgrades carmakers are giving to their sedan models. Big names in the Indian car market are strengthening their sedan segment by upgrading existing models, launching new sedans or planning out newer models. Here is a dekho on some of the interesting new, launched and upcoming models:
Honda Accord – While the company battles with Honda City recall on the one hand it is now offering the upgraded version of its luxury sedan Accord with a price tag of Rs 19.60 lakh and Rs 25.41 lakh. The carmaker has sold 25,000 units of Accord since its launch. The new Accord is being offered in two options: a 2.4-litre and a 3.5-litre variant.

The car has been modified both on the outside and inside. It now flaunts more stylish exteriors and swanky interiors fit for a premium sedan.
Volkswagen Passat – The new Passat comes loaded with a 2.0 TDI diesel and a1.8 TSI petrol units. Neither of the engines is new but the 2.0 TDI diesel has been retuned to belt out 170bhp, which is a good 32bhp more than the one available now. Passat comes with the option of a manual or DSG gearbox.
The car has certain new dimensions to its look lent by a fresh aggressive front grille, new headlight design, use of chrome and a different looking rear due to new tail-lamps. The new Passat retains the interior look more or less with its wide horizontally split dash and inset instrument dials.

Hyundai i45 and RB Saloon – The Hyundai i45 was spotted testing between Chennai – Bengaluru and from the spy shots the car looks well styled on the outside and luxurious on the inside. The GDI badge seen on the rear hints at a 2.0 litre turbo charged engine capable of producing 210bhp. Also, the fact that the test mule was running undisguised hints at the fact that the carmaker might be close to the launch date of the model.Hyundai is all set to bring the RB saloon, called Solaris in Russain, to the Indian market. Hyundai showcased the RB Saloon in the Moscow Auto Show last year. The Hyundai RB is likely to powered by 1.4 and 1.6 Gamma petrol engines capable of generating 106bhp and 122bhp respectively. The car would have four-speed automatic and a five-speed manual transmission options.RB is built on the ‘fluid sculpture’ format of the company and flaunts new bumpers, new front grille, bonnet and headlights.Maruti Kizashi – The country’s largest carmaker has forayed into the premium segment with its sports sedan Kizashi. The car comes equipped with the engine that also powers Grand Vitara. The 16-valve VVT DOHC inline-four displaces 2393cc and generates 176 bhp at 6000 rpm and 23 kgm of torque at 4000 rpm. It comes with a six-speed manual gearbox and an optional CVT. The car is priced between Rs 16,50,000 – Rs 17,50,000 (ex-showroom, New Delhi).
