The Employment Pass (EP) is the Singapore work visa granted mainly to foreign Entrepreneurs, professionals, skill employees, managers and owners (shareholders)/directors of Singapore companies.
A foreigner who has successfully incorporated a Singapore company is allowed by the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) to apply for a Singapore Employment Pass in order to enable them to live and work in Singapore. No monthly levy charge is required for an EP and it does not fall under any quota system.
A Singapore Employment Pass (EP) work visa will be granted if you fall under any of the following:
- You are a foreign Entrepreneur, professional, managing director, shareholders of Singapore companies who desire to relocate to Singapore in order to personally handle the operation so of your company
- You have incorporated a Singapore company and you have to hire foreign employees
- A Singapore employer has offered you employment. In this case, the company shall be the one to process and submit the pass application for you.
In order to be eligible for an Employment Pass, you should earn at least S$2,500 of fixed monthly salary and must possess any of the following:
- As a general rule, you are expected to possess a recognized Diploma/Degree qualification from a reputable university
- Professional qualifications
- Specialist skills
- Work related experience
Each applicant is assessed by the Ministry of Manpower based on his merits. The following are also some important factors being considered.
- Salary of applicant
- Age of applicant
- Roles & responsibility
- Repute of the company
- Company paid up capital
- Applicant current citizenship
Possessing the required educational criteria does not necessarily guarantee the approval of an EP application because there are additional criteria being considered such as relevant work experience and/or professional skills.
Conversely, an applicant who has no recognized educational qualification is not necessarily rejected for EP provided he shows possession of other compensating factors.
The Employment Pass has three categories: P1, P2 and Q1 Pass.
The P Pass is issued to foreigners seeking managerial, executive or specialist jobs.
- P1 Pass – for applicants with more than S$7,000 fixed monthly salary
- P2 Pass – for applicants with more than S$3,500 to S$7,000 fixed monthly salary and possesses recognized qualifications.
- Q1 Pass – for applicants with more than S$2,500 fixed monthly salary and possesses recognized qualifications
