A Cleaning Company That Almost Took Me To The Cleaners
There’s a very true popular saying that states that you should always learn from other’s errors – since you usually won’t live long enough to make all the mistakes yourself! I’ve had a terrible experience with a specific cleaning company and I hope that this write-up can prevent other people from going through the same experience.
It all happened about 2 years ago when my husband and I found a beautiful little house to rent. The home was just the right size, situated in a very secure neighbourhood and had a big enough back garden for our dog and a small heated swimming pool area in addition to that. The only drawback was that the previous renters had a whole pack of puppies as pets and these fuzzy creatures were permanently in the house, so you can just imagine the state the carpets and floors were in!
But no worries, we would not let a horrible odor and a handful of dog hairs get us down so I grabbed the local newspaper, turned to the classifieds section and dialed the number of the first cleaning company listed. The woman on the other side of the line was quite pleasant and we arranged to have 2 carpets and two floor surfaces cleaned the following day.
The two guys arrived bright and early the next morning and I showed them which rooms and carpets to scrub. I then realized that I had no money on me and told them to continue with the job, I’ll be back in a few minutes and I raced back to gas station to draw some cash.
When I returned about 20 minutes later, I got a big surprise! The 2 people from the cleaning company apparently decided that the entire home needed cleaning, and not just the tiles and carpets I instructed them to clean. On top of that, I have asked for them to use as little water as they can, as I did not have time to wait for the carpets and rugs to dry for days as the moving van was booked for the following day. Low and behold, the whole house was drenched! Each and every carpet in every room of the house had been washed!
Needless to say I was not very pleased with this situation as I clearly showed them which carpets and tiles to clean and they just chose to pay no attention to my instructions. In addition to that all, the initial quotation that I’ve received for 2 carpets and two floors were now null and void and I was served with an invoice for more than 4x what I was quoted for!
I instantly phoned the cleaning company to object and was advised that it was my obligation to watch the cleaning staff and that I’d better make certain I pay the complete bill!
The moral of the story is – don’t use the first cleaning company you find in the classified listings section. Simply because the business’s name starts with an A, doesn’t mean you will receive A-class service!
