Beth Holloway’s Tips to Keep Kid’s Safe Year Round
During spring breaks many teens and young adults take a long awaited break from either their schools or their work to enjoy the warmer weather. Basically for young adults the whole idea of spring breaks is to travel with friends to sandy shores and some exotic locations.
Spring break raises concerns for parents regarding their child’s safety. Beth Holloway, who became a public figure when her daughter Natalee Holloway disappeared in 2005 during the spring break trip to Aruba who was on her Graduation trip with some fellow students from Mountain Brook High School, has some safety tips and advice for parents and young adults whom they love so much. At that time, Beth was forced to become an expert in international law and safety and she brings this firsthand experience and expertise to Mayday 360 which is a worldwide travel and support network designed to keep American travelers safe when they are abroad.
Because of her personal experience, Beth has always worked to educate young adults about their personal safety. She always says “it’s up to young adults who have to think about their personal safety no matter where they are. Whether they are going on a trip or heading out to meet some friends, they need to come up with a plan for ending their outing the same way they plan where they are going and with whom they are going with. They always need to have a full circle, 360 safety plan.”
Beth is also a founder of Natalee Holloway Resource Center which has some good resources to help for planning of travelling both domestically and abroad including tips for safe travelling. It also have different tools where free downloads are available related to Domestic and International Travel Tips, a Checklist for Domestic Travel and a checklist for International Travel which gives important information and even encourages you to take safety steps at the time of travelling.
She urges parents and young adults to think about where we are going and what we are doing more seriously and more concentration and more time should be dedicated to think about our safety first. This is not only for travelling but this should also be applied on various other components like when young adults meet their friends at movies or at restaurants or at clubs on a trip. It is something that we need to take care of everyday whether it entails walking to and from school or just hanging out with friends on weekends.
Beth also comments that “we as moms knows that bad things happen everywhere, which is why it is so important to have personal safety plan whether you are in town or abroad.”
Mayday 360 is for every American who is travelling abroad in order to get the type of help needed when faced with an emergency or crisis. If something happens outside the country then we may be accustomed with the rules and regulations in the foreign lands and maybe not prepared for the difference in the level of help offered by law. Mayday 360 offers to those who are travelling abroad for any reason, peace of mind with affordable plans to navigate the confusing protocols should something happen. It is beneficial as it offers an emergency hotline on the ground assistance in a safety crisis.
