Why It’s Wise To Leave Driveway Paving To The Professionals
Not long ago I had the notion of setting my own driveway paving, a thought that lasted for as long as it took to discover what a labor intensive task it is. Now, don’t misunderstand me, I understand how to lay paving, albeit on paper, and I am not scared of hard work but even I have enough good sense to understand when I’m going to bite off more than I can eat. While it is true that I take pleasure in carrying out Do-it-yourself home improvement jobs and am rather good at it, to which my better half will hopefully attest, there are some matters that are better left to the professionals.
But before I clarify why a person should leave driveway paving to the experts I have to say that I was at first hesitant to bring a contractor in to do the job. This is because our drive was tarred just a couple of years previously and the job wasn’t correctly carried out. I was away on business at the time and could not be present to ensure that the underlying area was properly prepared to receive the tar. I tried to get the contractor back to fix the drive when it became rutted just one year later but the person had unsurprisingly gone bankrupt. I realize that not all companies are disreputable and inefficient but you can be sure that I screened the paving firm that I hired to do this specific task with great care.
There are a variety of reasons why it is a wise decision to have your driveway paving expertly done. First of all, the current drive must be lifted and the rubble removed. Next the whole space needs to be leveled and compacted, particularly if the paving is to be laid over soil. To do this, a strong team of workers and some heavy machinery is likely to be needed.
What is more the exact setting of the pavers requires some expertise, particularly if there is to be a design in the stones. The pavers need to be laid in a specific order, moving from the outside inward and the entire vicinity must be correctly aligned not just to achieve neatness but to ensure that the pavers interlock correctly. The goal is to leave as little room in between them as possible. Moreover, the pavers at the edges will also require trimming and that is a precise undertaking requiring a specific saw which the majority of people don’t have lying around in their garages. A good contractor should also have a clue how many pavers are going to be needed for the job at hand and be able to avoid wastage that you might otherwise have to pay for.
Now that I’ve witnessed what a challenging task it is to lay paving correctly I am pleased I didn’t attempt to undertake it on my own. Furthermore, this is a good factor that paving is so resilient because I do not wish to have to resurface my entrance for many years in the future.
