Discover the Art of Motion with MINI and Red Bull
MINI is set to support a free-running event in London this weekend as part of its ongoing relationship with Red Bull. The ‘Red Bull Art of Motion’ event is taking place at the National Theatre on London’s South Bank and will showcase the talents of 24 of the world’s best free-runners.
The competition is the first of its kind in the UK and contestants will navigate the course, performing gymnastic moves as they make their way through. One of the obstacles is, of course, a MINI Cooper. The first round of the event asks each competitor to freestyle across the course, demonstrating their skills and using several different objects and features. Judges will place the top 12 contestants, who will then run the course again and be judged on creativity, execution, flow and technical prowess.
Throughout the competition, the panel of judges will be watching out for the ‘sickest trick’. The winner of this title will receive a trophy in the shape of a MINI John Cooper Works gear stick.
Free-running was created in France by David Belle and developed by Parisian Sebastien Foucan. It became popular in Britain following the release of Jump London, a video made to introduce the art to the English-speaking world. Designed to allow ultimate self-expression and creativity, free-running embodies the idea of complete freedom of movement.
The competition starts at 6pm on Saturday 20th March and no tickets are required – visitors are encouraged to just come along and spectate. The more athletic among you may be inspired to go back home and put your used MINI Cooper in Bristol to a more unconventional use!
