You Can Never Have Enough Shelves
A shelf is a shelf is a shelf, right? Certainly not! Wall shelves are available in so many types, designs, shapes, colours and styles and are therefore very convenient items that can be quite versatile, op top of being useful!
If you just give it some thought and allow your inner-designer to step forward, you may invariably turn an uninteresting shelf into an eye-catching element at your house!
Before buying a trolley full of racks and start putting a shelf on every open space you can get, you first need to take a step back again and assess your needs. Decide what the main purpose of the shelves will be – do you need space for storage or for a shelf to jazz up a dull corner of your living room? What design and style have you got in mind? Are you going to go with practical, or rather for “wow, that’s amazing”?
Then walk through your home and carefully study each wall in every room to discover where you will be able to put in a shelf or two. I’ve never heard anyone complain about having too much packing or storage space available, so if you have a number of bare walls, be thankful and make the most of it!
Beginning with your living room, you can buy a few floating shelves and mount them at different heights on the walls. Place an exceptional family photograph or a fancy decoration on each and you have just turned a boring wall into a sure conversation starter.
No kitchen area can ever have enough shelf space. Kitchens shouldn’t have numerous ornaments and decorations hanging everywhere. If you feel that you don’t have enough cabinet space, you can add several loose shelves to the wall and display your assortment of herbal plants and spices on them. Or you can hang several shelves of equal length above each other in a cupboard to immediately create more storage or packing space.
An extra shelf or two in a bathroom can also go along way, specifically if you are already struggling to find space for your towels, scented candles and bubble bath! You will not only be able to save space, your guest will think that you have purely put up the shelf for cosmetic purposes.
The childrens’ rooms are next. Do you battle to get to their beds to kiss them goodnight as you have to fight your way through a collection of soft toys and games, Lego, puzzles and other gadgets? This can quickly be sorted out with shelves! Not only will the toys be off the ground, but the children will be delighted as you can now exhibit all their best friends in one row. Organized in a matter of minutes!
If you have a lock up garage area, you can also hang a number of shelves there. Garden tools, cool boxes along with other items that you don’t use often can be kept in the garage until required.
With a bit of creativity and a couple of shelves, you can quickly take care of your clutter!
