90’s Music- A Decade in Review

If you’re in your thirties, probabilites are that you must be known with the 90’s Music. The 1990s was a decade dominated by venerable pop and R&B music in which artists such as MC Hammer, Boyz II Men, Paula Abdul and Britney Spears thrived. Not everybody is a fan of those times, but whether you like it or not, 90’s Music will soon be back on your confined radio stations.
The intial three years of the last decade of the 20th century belonged to Bryan Adams, Mariah Carey, Madonna, Paula Abdul and Vanessa Williams, all of whom held and used a very adult sounding voice in their content as compared to the pop music produced in the late 80s. But in spite of that, other more various sounds of Vanilla Ice and Kris Kross also created their space and were given considerable airplay on the radio stations of that time.
By the call off of the first quarter of the 1990s, an increased phenomenon that demanded instant attraction had arrived on the music scene. A smooth-voiced sect of four musicians that called themselves Boyz II Men found the big break when their “End Of The Road” was preferred to feature on the Eddie Murphy flick Boomerang’s original soundtrack.
In the second quarter of the decade that ranged from 1992 – 1995, several recording artists such as PM Dawn, Jade, Arrested Development, Ace of Base and Jodeci blossomed from moment to time, but the real pop boom was yet to occur. The second half of the 90s showcased the strongest roster of pop artists with names such as Celine Dion, Mariah Carey and Madonna’s achievement coinciding with the diminishing demand for alternative rock music. The boy bands also came back in fashion with the emergence of Backstreet Boys, NSYNC and 98 Degress – the earlier two reaching worldwide achievement both on commercial and critical levels. The boy band trend proved to be more long-lasting than people thought and even managed to do well in the 2000s.
The demand for 90s sound is back again and it’s no total surprise that due to today’s generation’s inability to reproduce that sound is forcing radio stations to go back to the 90’s music. A latest example being that of a Sacramento radio station which permanently altered its alternative rock theme to adopt a strict 90s-only show list, after taking tons of public requests. for that reason don’t be surprised if the next time you tune in to your local FM, the sound of proven 90s hits satisfy the pop bug in you.
