After one blister is opened by activating the device, the medication is injected into the airstream created by inhaling through the mouthpiece of the device. The active ingredient, Salmeterol is a bronchodilator which essentially relaxes the lung function, making breathing easier; while Fluticasone is a corticosteroid that reduces inflammation in the lungs. Both these ingredients work in harmony to dilate the airways and improve breathing in the patient, providing relief. Clinical trials reveal that a combination of these two active ingredients is more efficient at treating respiratory diseases than formulations which consist of Salmaterol or Fluticasone in isolation. However, it is important to note that Advair 500 or the generic drug, Seroflo is deemed a long-term maintenance medication and is not a rescue drug formulated to provide instant relief from severe asthmatic attacks.
Advair or Seroflo Dosage
Available in the form of an inhaler, Seroflo or the branded versions are recommended for use twice a day, although the severity of the condition and other medical conditions/age of the patient need to be analysed by a doctor to prescribe the ideal dosage.
