Words create images in the mind’s eye. Clear and crisp descriptions can involve the use of metaphors and similes that bring understanding to a topic or subject. Words evolve into sentences and paragraphs and soon, an effective article is born. So how does one inspire any measure of creativity?

Ideas can be triggered by the five senses: sight, sound, smell, touch, and taste. Use that sensory radar to zero in on creativity by writing down such an experience for future reference. Creative ideas can come from anywhere. Use a conversation or something striking that was read as inspiration, but write it down immediately so it’s not lost. Such ideas are not stolen, because developing that idea is what makes it unique.
Relax and Take Some Time to Sort Out Thoughts
Open and unclutter your mind, because a jumbled mind has no extra room for fresh ideas. A clear head puts creativity into gear, focus into full speed, and ideas into overdrive. But remove any obstacles that can make that effort spin out of control, crash, and burn.
Try to relax, reflect, and remember. Experiences and interactions with others trigger emotions, which spawn opinions reflected in writings. Tapping into those emotions and opinions can lead to creative expression.

Create an Inspirational Workspace
A workspace free of stress and distraction can only help. A clean and well-organized workspace is conducive to creative flow. Surround that workspace with things, pictures or smells that inspire, and awards or objects that crank up the creativity. For some, that may be a favorite photo or a stress-reducing squeezable ball.
Set the Right Mood
Setting the proper pace and tempo for your mood can inspire and spark creativity. Some writers use “liquid inspiration:” a bottle of beer or a sip of wine to get going. Others prefer to set the mood with soothing music or let soft lighting start a creative flow.
Get Away or Break the Routine
Letting go and having fun can produce the adrenaline needed to spark imagination. Some want adventure, such as a roller coaster ride. Others prefer solitude, such as a nature hike. The key is to break the routine, and the rut that often results, by daring to do something different.
In sum, one must experiment to experience. Trial and error is the best route to finding what works to open the door to creativity when writing articles.
