Beating Breast Cancer With Food
Breast cancer is one of women’s greatest fears. And the statistics are sobering: 1 in 8 women or 12 percent will develop invasive breast cancer over the course of her lifetime. In 2010 alone, the Department of Health says that breast cancer is the most common types of cancer in the Philippines. In the Philippines, 75% of all cancers occur after age 50 years, and only about 3% occur at age 14 years and below. If the current low cancer prevention consciousness persists, it is estimated that for every 1800 Filipinos, one will develop cancer annually. At present, most Filipino cancer patients seek medical advice only when symptomatic or at advanced stages: for every two new cancer cases diagnosed annually, one will die within the year.

Carrots- Fiber-rich carrots may be a diet antidote to breast cancer. They’re fat-free and low-cal too. One cup of raw carrots has just 48 slimming calories; 70 calories per cup (sliced, cooked). Carrots are also rich in beta-carotene, which some studies suggests may decrease the risk of breast cancer.
Bran Cereal. Better than a croissant or doughnut for breakfast, bran cereal is low in fat, which may provide added breast cancer protection.
Tofu- Want a high-protein, anti-cancer food? Try tofu (soybean curd). One-half cup of tofu has 94 calories and 6 grams of fat—only 1 gram is saturated. The word is, tofu contains anti-cancer agents called iso-flavonoids. Research shows , in fact, that Japanese women are less likely than British women to develop breast cancer, because they have high levels of these chemicals in their blood.
Corn- Although corn is not low in calories ( 178 per cup) it’s high in fiber (6 grams) and low in potential cancer- promoting fat (2.2). This summer vegetable contains cancer-fighting phytochemicals and compounds known as protease inhibitors which may help prevent breast cancer.
Oranges- Rich in Pectin, a form of cancer-fighting fiber, oranges can help fill you up—and are low-cal too. One orange has only 62 calories and is virtually fat free. Vitamin C-rich fruits—such as oranges—may help prevent breast cancer by increasing enzymes known to break down carcinogens (cancer causing substances).
