Ergonomic Work Stations – how are you set up?
When it comes to today’s computers, it’s all about smaller, lighter and more portable. With mobile phone and tablet technology now capable of handling most of our day to day internet tasks, the traditional work station setup is quickly changing.
However, while it’s certainly convenient to replace the bulky desktop with a slick and streamlined tablet, netbook or laptop – for extended computer work, it is still important to ensure that your area is set up to be ergonomically comfortable. This minimises strain on your joints and pressure on your back and ensures healthy circulation and blood flow.
This doesn’t mean that you can’t rely on your netbook, tablet or laptop computer to be your all in one computing solution. Consider the number of accessories you can use to ensure your workstation is ergonomically sound:
– Seating – while it’s comfy to lounge on the couch watching telly while you work on your spread sheets, the arrangement is certainly not ideal for your back. If you’re going to be working on a computer for more than ½ an hour, you should really set up your notebook on a proper desk with an ergonomically adjustable chair; have your feet perpendicular and your arms positioned parallel to the floor to reduce strain on your joints.
– Laptop risers – proper workstations should be set up so that your screen is at an arm’s length and at your eye level and you’re not looking down on your screen. Traditional laptop setups where you’re working on your lap or with your netbook on a desk don’t support this type of arrangement. Invest in a laptop riser to adjust your laptop screen to eye level or consider an external monitor for when you’re working for an extended period of time.
– Keyboards and mice – even if you manage to master the shrunken QWERTY keyboard, the crammed keys of your netbook can cause you to hunch up your shoulders when you’re typing. Consider a separate keyboard and mouse for your laptop workstation – it’ll also minimise the frustrations of accidentally striking your touchpad while you’re typing.
When it comes to computer accessories, you can often rent these along with your Acer, Apple or Samsung laptop rental. By bundling your software and accessories with your laptop, you’ll be able to make convenient monthly payments and stay up to date with the latest technology.
