Crazy Things Girls Do When They’re Single and Looking for Love (Looking back at college years)
Is it just me or coincidence? Valentines seem to get too much attention from my friends. Let’s face it they have their special someone (and there are those who have more than one—just thought you ought to know) while I’m still pretty much available. However, it was only recently as I watched Michael Buble’s Haven’t Met You Yet video in YouTube that I noticed the date when it was posted—my birthday. With V-Day coming soon I sort of got, not hopeful yet completely freaked out (sort of). Well let’s see, belonging to the NBSB (no boyfriend since birth) club and with pretty much loving life, even without a love life, I don’t know whether to take it as a coincidence or a sign God must have intended for me with the message “Wait for him…he’s just around looking for you”. Feeling all cheesy and ridiculous, I go back to my writing however with MB’s song sort of making me crazy in a fun yet doubtful-whether-I’d-get-a match way, I write this instead based on me and my friend’s earlier experiences when they even don’t have their men: Crazy things girls do when they are looking for love.
1. Hang out where the boys are. I think this one is not sort of crazy except if this place doesn’t hold anything that may interest you (except for the possibility of finding love) and if you’re supposed to be someplace else. I remember two of my friends cutting classes for this reason—yeah they’re crazy.
2. Make friends with the boy you like. There’s a certain part on a quote by Lizette Oberg saying “it takes a second to have a crush on someone….” that pretty much gives a girl the idea to go for the guy that has caught her eyes. A girl usually befriends with a guy in hopes that this will be her biggest chance to be closer to him or that in thinking that maybe he’s the one. There are instances that this usually happens however the crazy part is going over all total sweetness which doesn’t seem normal anymore and gives her away completely. Being one of the boys is also a tricky part for a girl. Yeah there are advantages to this since you’ll definitely be closer than close and he’ll be the one to approach however this may leave a setback like mine as until now my best guy friend calls me “bro”(I use to have a crush on him that gave me reason to take the courage to approach), however the boyish stuff was effortless since I was really interested with those things like video games and action flicks.
3. We think of taking friendship to the next level. There are times when you’ll realize that your best guy friend happens to be a good catch. He’s smart, funny and completely good looking. He may have traits which suggests him as someone who can be your perfect match (and why not) especially with the fact that we have accepted him totally even with his shortcoming. The idea that he may be the one you’re waiting for thus making you linger on the thought makes you fall for your friend. There are those who do have success on this situation but once realize that you’re just hoping and falling in love is a big question mark (you love him but you’re not in love with him), it dies out and eventually you’ll realize how silly you’ve been even your act.
4. Listen to love songs hoping that he’s just out there. Yup, most girls do this when they’re either broken hearted or frustrated. You’ve been waiting too long for Mr. Right, and you feel that fate made you left behind with your friends having good relationships (I am guilty at times of this) however there are times when you need to step back to reality rather than falling for someone who you think you haven’t met. At times this is crazy especially as you become well too aware that you’re turning someone down.
5. Go on a fortune telling frenzy. Yup, this is me and my friends. At times we would ask some person who can do palm reading to do this asking “when will I meet Mr. Right?” we would believe it back then and go crazy about it waiting for him, unfortunately later on we’d realize because of waiting things change course and eventually we are still all single even using people search. Ha!
Crazy stunts by single ladies, which we eventually grew out of in time; We later on realize that with careers soaring and everything nice and dandy a relationship is the least of our worries for criminal records. This Valentines there are those from that group who’ll be dating their man while there are those, like me (whether they are friends or just acquaintances) who’ll have another way of celebrating this. As of this moment I am presently listening to Terrified, composed by Idol judge Kara DioGuardi, and I’m falling in love.
