Lauren Alaina and Others Survive American Idol’s first day of LA Week

Before the start of singing competition American Idol’s LA week, show host Ryan Seacrest and co-judge Randy Jackson claimed that the current batch of contestants is the best there has ever been on the show. It wasn’t the first time that the program officials have made such a claim, and the reality became clear when by the end of the night half of the show’s 327 were told to go back home.
With a crowd of participants in the waiting room, jury had to start the trials from the word go, with Florida native Brett Loewenstern the first to take the center stage in front of the newly found jury. The judges decided to keep their mum until the whole group had been tried out, something which turned out to be an intensely long time for the 16 year old Loewenstern who had started off the proceeding with the Beatles’ ‘Let It Be.’ But all hid wait was worth it as the young singer was selected for the next round.
First time Judge Jennifer Lopez was dreading the harsh job of cutting young people out of the program and repeatedly murmured, “God, this is dreadful.”
Further making the cut were New York’s Rachel Zevita, Casey Abrams and Thia Megia. Victoria Huggins additionally brought her lanky frame to the trials but her rendition of ‘My Hallelujah Song’ wasn’t adept to impress the judges.
Then Paris Tassin and James Durban- a pair of parents took the stage, and even if former’s ‘My Heart Will go on’ had some weak points, the latter’s ‘Oh! Darling’ combined with his rock star persona wooed everyone in attendance. However, both got selected to pursue their rags to riches story.
One of the program favourites Lauren Alaina easily found her way through, along with Chris Medina, whose life story touched many a souls. Falsetto-voiced Jacee Badeaux and Texan Hollie Cavanaugh further got the judges’ nods.
The final roster was trimmed down from 327 to 168, with the remaining contestants all expecting to get past the historically tight group rounds next Wednesday.
