Rotavators, Tillers and Cultivators; why shall I require them?
Why do I require a rotavator?
Rotavators are perfect for any keen gardener, amateur or professional. They help to make your soil prepped and ready for cultivation this summer!
Rotavators, Tillers and Cultivators
A rotavator, also known as a tiller or cultivator, is a motorised cultivator that turns the soil by method of turning tines or blades. These blades are intended to break up soil in preperation for planting.
Petrol Rotavators
There are numerous brands of petrol rotavators on the market. Petrol rotavators generally tend to come with more power than electric rotavators and well known brands include Mantis, Husqvarna and Mountfield. Petrol rotavators are available in a variety of widths, from a small 9″ tiller, to the bigger Husqvarna T560RS which has a working width of 33 inches.
Mantis Petrol Tillers
Mantis tillers are very good quality, smaller petrol tillers. The Mantis petrol tiller is lightweight (only 11kg), and it has a 25cc Honda engine which is simple to start and requires no mixing. The Mantis petrol tiller has a 9″ tine width and will till down to 10″. Mantis have patented, reversible serpentine tines: A design that digs deep into any soil, even hard clay, and will not bounce like other mini-tillers.

The Mountfield Manor 35 Rotavator is powerful enough to take on larger plots thanks to its 54cm working width and the Mountfield Manor 55R rotavator is the largest of the Mountfield petrol rotavators with a 54cm working width.
Electric Rotavators
Electric rotavators (electric tillers) are designed for domestic use without the requirement of having to start a petrol engine. Electric tillers contain the Mantis electric tiller. The Mantis electric tiller is light weight (9.5kg) with a hand grip and 3 speeds to suit your gardening project. The tines spin up to 240 rpm. The tilling depth of the Mantis electric tiller is 10″ or reverse the tines to shallow cultivate the top 2″-3″ of soil.
You can use Rotavators, Tillers and Cultivators for your own garden, or a hobby farm, right up to larger plots of land.
