The Different Kinds of MP3 Players
MP3 players are sophisticated audio devices that come in many varieties like a hard drive based players, micro hard drive based players and the flash based players.
Hard drive based players are larger and heavier than other kinds of MP3 players. This is because the hard drive inside have the capacity to store up to 10 GB (or more) that roughly equals to 2,900 MP3 files. Most consumers prefer these kinds of MP3 players because they can contain an entire music collection, images, data and video files. The hard drive based players also allow podcast broadcasting. One type of these players is the Apple iPod that can hold up to 80 GB (around 20,000 MP3 files). They contain rechargeable batteries that can not be replaced. However, these players have moving parts that may skip during sudden physical movements. So, if you want an audio player that you can take with you when jogging or when at the gym, you may opt for the other kinds.
Micro hard drive based MP3 players are quite comparable to the hard drive based player apart from the size that is a bit smaller and the internal storage capacity is also lesser. These audio players can store up to 6 GB of MP3 files, which are at least 1,700 music tracks. It may be a little lesser than what the hard drive based players can boast but still most consumer prefer these players because they are light weight and very compact to carry around. They are also vulnerable to skipping if the users moved a lot. Just like the bigger hard drive based devices, they also contain batteries that can only be recharged. If you want a smaller audio device and do not care for a very large amount of songs in the playlist, then these micro hard drive based MP3 players are for you.
The flash based players are the ultra compact kind of Mp3 players. They have no moving parts that mean almost no chance of skipping. The smaller size and the fact that they have no moving parts are the reasons why they do not use too much battery life. They also use replaceable batteries that allow the users to use new batteries in case the old ones drain out while being used. The main disadvantage though is the storage capacity; they can only store 32 MB to 2 GB that’s roughly equals to 10 to 570 songs. If you are a music addict and want to have all your music collection in a single package, then these devices are not for you. But if are say, an athlete that just wants to have your music around you while in training, then these are the best kind of Mp3 player for you.
