Different Kinds of Laptop Batteries
Laptops are powered by batteries; and there are many kinds of batteries available in the market like the following:
Lithium Ion (LiON) – this is the most popular laptop battery type that most users prefer. This is lightweight and has been proven to work better than other kinds of batteries. It does not have the memory effect that causes other kinds of batteries like the Nickel-cadmium to lose their full recharging ability. The memory effect occurs when the battery was repeatedly discharged the recharged even before being fully drained. The LiOn has a rapid-charging ability which is good when you are in a hurry and do not have the time get your battery fully charged. This option was made possible because of the improvement made in the LiON over NiMH batteries in the memory effect. Another advantage of battery is that it is the most environment friendly than the rest. The disadvantage; it is more expensive.
Nickel Cadium (NiCaD) – this is the first laptop battery chemistry that was developed. This rechargeable notebook battery features high output current capability and low cost flexibility. This kind of battery has rapid recharging ability and can be used in a wide range of products. The sad fact though about this chemistry is that it hasn’t been considered useful nowadays because it suffered from the dreaded memory effect. Frequent rapid recharging causes this battery to have a shorter life.
Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) – this kind of battery came next to the NiCad in development. When it come to a few features, this chemistry is better than the NiCad due to significant improvements done in safety, dependability and the over all capacity. Though it is considered longer lasting than the previous chemistry, this too has suffered from the dreaded memory effect. To prevent this battery to lose its life as easily as the NiCad, it has to be fully discharged before recharging. This way you can get the maximum effect and a prolonged life for your NiMH battery. This battery is also more environment friendly than the NiCaD because they do not have heavy metals in their components.
Smart or Dumb Batteries – some batteries are either called smart or dumb. Smart batteries feature internal microprocessor with smart chips that manage the battery performance and the output voltage. It reports the charging condition and calculates how much running time is left prior to the next recharging need. Dumb batteries on the other hand are the counterpart of smart batteries but they are considered to have shorter lives.
You can easily purchase laptop batteries over the internet. You should get an extra laptop battery for your laptop.
