Life is not so good but boring
‘That’s not as easy as you seem to think,’ she said.
‘To do those lifts and hold the girl so that she can do her turns? It can’t be that hard.’
I turned and looked back along the way we had come. Two sets of footprints in the sand next to the white froth at the edge of the sea. Her steps were the same length as mine because we had been dawdling along.
‘I can jump further than you,’ she claimed.
She set off, running a few steps and then leaping into the air. I followed and leapt too. Then there was an argument because we hadn’t taken off from the same place. So we found a way to measure the jumps.
‘You win,’ I said. ‘In Ju Jitsu, we don’t do that sort of stuff.’
‘The point is that it’s not as easy as you seem to think.’
So, I picked her up and dashed into the water that a wave had just left behind on the sand. She shrieked and clung on to me.
‘Tell me it wasn’t easy to pick you up.’
‘No, because you’ll drop me in the water.’
I took her back onto the dry sand and let her legs go.
‘No I wouldn’t have,’ I said looking into her gorgeous pale green eyes.
She smiled up at me.
