Daytrip in Essex.
Fancy a daytrip in Essex? Here are some tips both on where to go and on nice scenic routes to take you there regardless of whether you’re driving an old Winnebago or a new Toyota.
Romford in northeast London will be our starting point. Historically this was a market town in Essex and it seems apt to start out car journey here. The town has one of the few remaining dog racing tracks in London, the Romford Greyhound Stadium, so why not start the day there and earn yourselves some pocket money for the trip ahead.
Then get on the A12 east and cross the M25 until you get to Ingatestone in Essex where you can visit the 16th century Manor House Ingatestone Hall built by Sir William Pete and still occupied by his descendants. Then continue east to Chelmsford where you’ll find Hylands House and estate which is a beautiful Grade II listed building set in 574 acres of land. To get to Hylands House get off at junction 15 on the A12 and follow the A414 until you see signposting.
Then it’s time to head down towards the sea by following the A12 east and then the A130 south. Stop off in Rayleigh and look at the old Windmill or walk to the top of Rayleigh Mount with sweeping views across the Cross valley.
