Important ideas about Kidney Diet
Renal failure is no laughing matter and the seriousness of following a Kidney Diet is highly recommended to stop this condition from getting worse. Kidney’s are such an important organ as they act to rid your system of toxins in the blood through your urine. If your kidneys do decide to stop functioning properly then you will know as your body will start to retain fluid in certain areas, in my case it was around my ankles.
An even worse problem is that your cells will begin to expand causing fluid to build up into your lungs and consequently around your heart. Leading to everything swelling. This causes a reduction in available space in your body. Normally wear the heart and lungs would normally sit.
So when your thinking about a good kidney diet one of the obvious restrictions right away is that you will really need to cut down on your salt intake. Generally in a normal diet a bit of salt would not have an impact on you, but that would generally be when your kidney’s are fully functioning and can get rid of toxins straight away. Our bodies are made up mainly of water and it needs replenishing, so make sure that you are drinking plenty of it as this will help get rid of any toxins.
When the kidney’s just aren’t working properly, your body becomes open to attack and infection from all sorts of toxins.
So just throw out those microwave meals full of salt and get yourself on a good kidney diet. Salt can obviously lead to a real disaster.
So when renal failure kicks in, you need to concentrate and look at a good diet, otherwise you will also put your other essential organs under additional stress. Okay so I am not going to say that everyone would have the same kidney diet and to be honest, it will vary from one patient to another in the doctor’s eyes, but the main principle stays the same. Okay so the main items you will generally need to be aware of are protein, sodium, potassium and fluids.
Sodium is one which may not be able to be completely eliminated but you will need to reduce its consumption. It could be a good idea to stay away from, cheese, cured meats, most processed foods, soy sauce. Get rid of canned vegetables if you can as these often contain high amounts of ingredients you will want to avoid.
You will probably need to make sure that your fluid intake is around 4 to 8 cups in a day. Remembering this is not just only about water intake. These items include ice cream, Jello, and even watermelon.
Potassium is one of the items that you will not notice in your food, but items you need to be weary off are bananas, avocados, nuts and beans tend to be the more concentrated options.
Some other low content substitutes might be okay in small amounts.
If you are having dialysis then this will determine the amount of protein that you need in your diet.
Take into account all the above with your kidney diet recommendations and seek advice from your doctor and hopefully you should stay in good health.
