Ode to Candy
Oh candy, how do we love thee? Let us count the ways: Candy is sweet and delicious. Who doesn’t love a taste of a sweet thing now and then? Sometimes, when you are having a tough day, all you really need is to do is unwrap some sweet favorite and pop it in your mouth to make you smile. In an instant, you will feel lifted up as you inhale the aroma and then savor the wonderful flavor engulfing your taste buds. The cares of the day will melt away as you chew and swallow your favorite treat.
Candy brings back delightful memories of childhood. Everyone has a favorite candy they used to have when they were kids. When you get to have this treat as an adult, memories of warm summer nights playing with friends until the streetlights came on will come rushing back. Or maybe your best memories of childhood involve those rare snow days when school was cancelled and everyone got all bundled up and spent the day outside making snow angels and getting into snowball fights. You and your friends would all share a special candy when you huddled together by a fireplace; everyone warming their hands and feet by the fire and drying their boots and mittens.
Candy satiates your craving. No matter what flavor you desire, you can find a candy to satisfy you. Regardless of whether you have just got to have something sweet or sour, or fruit flavored or nutty, it is easy to find just the right piece of candy that gives you exactly what you need.
Candy brings us together with our loved ones. During holidays everyone has a seasonal favorite that they love and when you get together with your family, someone always brings their favorites to share. Again you can relive old memories with your families about holidays past, like the time someone got melted chocolate all over grandma’s fancy antique furniture.
Candy just makes us feel good. No one seems to share candies and remains miserable. There is just something about being offered a piece of candy or being the one to offer it that just brings happiness to everyone around you. Even if someone is able to resist the temptation to partake in the sugary goodness, they will still say “No thank you,” with a smile and will remember your generosity next time when they have candies to share with others.
Yes, candy can bring warmth, smiles, pleasant memories, and closeness to you and everyone around you. If you want to make a new friend, there is no easier way to do so than to offer that person a piece of candy. And if they decline, you get to make a new friend and eat that candy yourself, which is a double bonus.
