Mercedes: Fairfax drivers support the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy
Since the launching of the U.K. Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy, 4,500 students have experienced an innovative and wildly successful introduction to the world of driving. An impressive 79 percent of students passed their driving exam on the first try after completing the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy. Compared to the U.K. national average of 43 percent, the Driving Academy has a lot to boast about! Mercedes. Fairfax drivers are excited for Mercedes-Benz USA to finally follow the U.K. Driving Academy’s successful path.
Late in 2011, Mercedes-Benz USA will open the US version of the Driving School and anticipate offering teenagers the skills and experience needed for safe and enjoyable driving. One of the attractions of this Driving Academy is its focus on the U.S. environment and its ability to teach driving methods based on this research. The standard 30-hour in-class driver’s education with 6 hours of on-the-road experience is not enough, according to Mercedes, to turn a non-driver into a completely competent driver. Their answer? Mercedes will offer a completely comprehensive driving school that goes beyond the rules of the road and basics on how to maneuver an automobile from your local Mercedes dealer, Reston drivers agree that today’s driving environment calls for an updated driving education program.
“Despite the dramatic changes in vehicles, highways, and the driving environment over the past 60 years, driver education remains relatively unchanged in the U.S. The skills required to simply get a license do not fully prepare young drivers to meet the demands of the road,” states Alexander Hobbach, Senior Manager, Daimler AG. “Mercedes-Benz recognizes this issue and as a result is creating an educational program for the U.S. that is based on the best teaching methods and tools available.”
The DMV (Department of Motor Vehicles) and U.S. Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy have been working together to ensure that the new school will meet all of the necessary government regulated guidelines. Upon its grand opening, the new Driving Academy will be the very first and only auto corporation to offer an inclusive, state-certified driving school in the United States. Your local Mercedes Fairfax dealer could not be more proud!
Hobbach went on to say, “As a company, we have a long history and continuous efforts to improve vehicle safety so the Driving Academy is a natural extension of Mercedes-Benz desire to achieve accident-free driving. With only 10 percent of crashes being a result of technical failure and 90 percent due to human error, Mercedes-Benz sees an opportunity to actively improve drivers’ skills, focusing first on novice drivers, who are most at risk on U.S. roads.”
With this opportunity comes a lot of responsibility for Mercedes. One new licensing policy called the GDL rules (Graduated Driver Licensing rules) calls for learning in the classroom or online, instruction on the road, supervised practice, and limited initial driving privileges for new drivers who can finally drive alone. The Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy has tailored their program around these rules, as well as other nation-wide policies, to ensure the very best driving school curriculum. Mercedes dealer, Reston, is behind the driving school and is proud to sell Mercedes-Benz products. With innovative instruction methods and careful attention to the changing U.S. driving environment, the Mercedes-Benz Driving Academy will be sure to be one of the top driving schools in the U.S. when it is opened later this year.
