The best resume format for IT professionals
While writing or creating a professional resume, you need to follow a particular resume format. It may be of an IT professional for any other position. For this you can see numerous websites online providing valuable information on resume writing or providing tips. Are you aware of the fact that few job postings can bring in around thousands of resumes. And employers can spend 10 to 30 seconds reviewing the resume with their basic goal being to carve down the loads of resumes that they get each day to a convenient stack of “keepers”. Obviously, there is a cut throat competition from other job seekers competing for the same position.
You need to begin your resume by focusing a particular format. There are basically 3 different resume formats. These formats are applicable in all fields. You may belong to an IT field or a law field, the format is same everywhere. The three types include the chronological resume, the functional resume and the combination resume.
The Chronological Resume Format
It is the most common option and one that people are most familiar with. In this format, each of your jobs and matching descriptions of responsibilities are listed in chronological order starting with the latest job. The dates of the entire job are comprised in the resume and it mostly includes career objective, skills & quality section or a profile section and an education section.
The Functional Resume Format
It is not as common as the chronological format and mostly recommended to people who have gaps in their work experience or those who have not been in touch with work for a while. In functional format, the resume focuses more on candidate’s skills, attributes and accomplishments. The jobs where you worked and which you include in resume do not includes the dates. The career history section will obviously be imperfect to a list of company names, location of each company and job titles. That’s it!
The Combination Resume Format
The other format is combined, which is a mix of both the chronological resume and the functional resume. A functional resume format is pursued but the job dates are included here. The employer is mainly concerned in knowing what profit you can bring to the company, so if the first page of your resume can effectively reflect the value you bring to the company, then the gaps can be ignored in goodwill of bringing you in for an interview.
