Vauxhall Insignia tops D Segment vehicle sales

According to figures released by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) the Vauxhall Insignia was the best selling segment D vehicle in March 2011. In total Vauxhall sold 7,826 Insignias in March 2011 which is a 68.2% increase on last March’s figure.
As well as private buyers the Insignia is proving to be a big hit with Fleet users. Fleet sales alone increased 147% in March 2011 compared to last March. Figures released by the SMMT also show that the Insignia was also the best selling segment D vehicle in the first quarter of this year. 11,904 Vauxhall Insignia units have been sold this year, that’s over 1,700 more than its closest rival – the BMW 3 Series.
In other segments, ahead of all new Vauxhall Zafira’s release later this year, the current and used Vauxhall Zafira topped the compact MPV sector for both total and fleet sales. Vauxhall also did well in the commercial segment, sales were up 56% year-on-year, and March saw Vauxhall take its largest share ever of the retail van market at 18.36%.
Vauxhall’s Managing Director Duncan Aldred said, “We’re naturally very pleased with these results. Not only are vehicles like the Insignia, Zafira, Vivaro and Movano leading the way in each of their sectors, but we’re also steadily increasing our market share, year on year. Overall, we now have 12.01 per cent of all UK vehicle sales – that’s nearly one per cent up year-to-date. With cars like the new Zafira Tourer, Astra GTC and Ampera all well on their way towards UK showrooms, we’re confident we can build still further on this success.”
