SEAT puts Spain on the car industry map

Part of the Volkswagen Group SEAT is a multinational car company with its head quarters in Martorell near the city of Barcelona. SEAT exports approximately 75% of its production models to over 72 countries. SEAT is the market leader in its home country of Spain, for 2010 it reported a turnover of five billion Euros and total sales of 339,500 units worldwide.

With its continual success in its home market and abroad SEAT has been able to announce some much-needed good news to the Spanish economy with the announcement of 700 new jobs at its Martorell plant near Barcelona. SEAT and the Catalan government’s Department of Business and Employment announced that an agreement had been reached to build the forthcoming Audi Q3 at the Martorell car plant. The announcement means that 1,500 jobs have been secured at SEAT’s car plant, 700 of these jobs will be new positions.

The agreement will see 1,200 local people receive training, leading to the creation of at least 700 new jobs. The workers will be gradually incorporated into the company, beginning later this year. The training and employment agreement was signed by F. Xavier Mena – the Catalan government’s Minister for Business and Employment – and Josef Schelschshorn, SEAT’s Vice-president for Human Resources.

Josef Schelschshorn said, “We offer the chance to get further qualifications as well as the prospect of working for SEAT, one of the most important and attractive job creators in the country, on the basis of a long-term contract.”

SEAT is very proud of its Spanish roots and remains the only company in its sector with the capacity to fully design, develop, manufacture and market cars in Spain. Cars built at the Martorell plant are already available at SEAT dealer Scotland showrooms and will be joined by the Audi Q3 shortly.
