BMW recognised as lowest Co2 producing premium car maker

In March 2011 Audi may have produced the most cars out of the German premium car manufacturers but BMW has stolen the march when it comes to CO2 levels. An industry wide study showed that BMW is the UK’s leading premium car manufacturer with the lowest CO2 emissions. BMW recorded a fleet average of 147g/km CO2, which is an improvement of 5% compared to last year.

BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology aims to lower CO2 levels without compromising performance figures. Not only do BMW produce the lowest CO2 emitting premium cars but they also have a mile per gallon figure of 50.4 and average power output of 182 bhp.

BMW’s closest rival, German rivals Audi average 152g/km CO2, 48.2mpg and 168bhp. The other German premium brand Mercedes recorded 174g/km, 41.6mpg and 183bhp. British premium car manufacturer – Jaguar has figures of 201g/km with combined fuel consumption of 37.7mpg and power output of 279bhp.

BMW’s CO2 figures are comparable to that of Nissan, the smaller capacity Japanese car manufacturer. Nissan reported an average CO2 figure of 145g/km, and 48.4mpg. However, Nissan’s average power output of 107bhp is 75hp less than BMW.

This is not the first time BMW has been rewarded for its environmental efforts, its year on year development of efficient engines, its engineering expertise and commitment to sustainability helped it to be named the mobility partner of the London 2012 Olympics in 2009. BMW was able to fulfil and even exceed the 25% CO2 reduction commitment in 2008. Dow Jones Sustainability Index also named BMW as the most sustainable car company in the world for the sixth time in 2010.

BMW’s EfficientDynamics technology is not found just in new cars, many used BMW in Scotland also have this CO2 lowering technology.
