Eczema Treatment- Do’s & Don’ts

Treatment of eczema at home can be more effective and easy than the expensive treatments prescribed by the doctors.  Moisturizing the skin and treating the inflammation of the skin is the general way of eczema treatment.   There are many household items and over the counter pharmaceuticals item which can do the job without visiting the doctor or hassles of long lines to visit the doc.

Eczema is a skin condition appearing as raised patches of red, dry skin.   The patches will usually feel warm and itch, prompting the afflicted person to scratch the affected areas.   Scratching will not help at all but worsen the skin condition.   To have proper diagnosis it is best to see a doctor rather than follow a prescription treatment.

The first facet of treatment of eczema is to keep the skin moisturized.    Always try to avoid the additives in the moisturizer which the doctors prescribe as they may contain alcohol or fragrance which will dry your skin and irritate it further.   There are other remedies too to remove the dryness of the skin like some oils and shortenings too.    If you apply these and wrap the place with a plastic covering then it acts very effectively as well does not stain your sheets.

Treating the inflammation can be somewhat trickier, but it can be done.  The first treatment that doctors generally prescribe is Hydrocortisone which can be purchased at any pharmacy without a prescription.    For a home remedy, taking a bath with oatmeal and milk in it will also help soothe the inflammation.   If you can use powder mil then it can be more effective.

The ultra violet light is also helpful in curing eczema.    If you are over exposed to UV light then it can increase the problem but it has been found that the lesser you expose the inflammation to sunlight the better for you.   The sunlight prompts the body to produce vitamin D, which helps to reduce the inflammation and helps the skin to retain moisture.

If you treat eczema at home the inflammation as well as itching which is caused by eczema can be significantly improved.  Go to a doctor for proper diagnosis if the home remedy does not prove effective for further medical intervention..
