My China Travel Tips Blog: Learn More About China
Hi, my name is Ian Hanks. Six years ago when I graduated college I moved to China. I’ve learned a lot about China and its culture and now I wish to share my knowledge with people who want to visit China. Helping other people find awesome places in China is a way for me to give back for all the wonderful China has given me. I also started this blog because there aren’t many good resources for traveling in China. Guide books like the Lonely Planet give you a good road map, but the information is too broad and too vast. I’ve found few China travel blogs and I want to notice they just describe great place that you should visit, but they don’t provide valuable information how to get there. The best way to see the “real” China is to go with a private tour. I actually work as a food tour guide in Hangzhou, where I live, for my friend’s company Edible Adventures. We can offer great food tours. However they’re expensive and limited to big cities.
There are many interesting places in China and my main purpose is to tell how to get there easily. I focus on introducing undiscovered locations and give all the important logistics including Google maps and information in Chinese. The blog is just getting started so I’m the only contributor at this point, but I would love to have other tourists share their own China travel tips. If you want to share your experience, It’s very easy to do. Just send me an e-mail with a short description of an awesome place, along with a photo and address details. Using your data I’ll write a blog post under your name. Also I will add this spot on Google maps and take care of the Chinese. If you are interested please send me an email at ian@mychinatraveltips.com
And now I want to tell you about one of my favorive locations in China. I live in Hangzhou, which is a forty minute train ride south of Shanghai. It is one of the most attractive cities in China and has a great laidback vibe. The city is most famous for its West Lake, located in the center of the city. It’s surrounded by lovely gardens and cultural sites. Tourists like this place. You always can find many tourists around the West Lake, but you can easily find numerous quiet spots.
The West Lake is great, but it’s not my favorite place. Behind the lake is a small mountain range covered in tea terraces. You should visit this wonderful mountain, especially in April during the month long tea picking season. You can hike for hours along the ridge overlooking the city and then drop down into a tea village for lunch. Try out either Longjing or Meijiawu tea village. The food in these villages is home-style. Be sure to order chicken soup and have a cup of the local Dragon Well green tea.
I will write more about tea fields of Hangzhou soon. I’ll give you the address of where to go, a map of where to hike, and a list of food you should order in English and Chinese.
Happy Travels! Please visit “My China Travel Tips” sometime soon. This China Travel Blog will provide you with valuable tips.
