A Knight’s Check
The digital age has given the world so many great things. Some people may hate the digital age and rather be living in the more simple times without all the fancy gadgets. Like back in the medieval days when knights were running around and the good old crusaders were making their pilgrimages back to Jerusalem fighting in what they would say “god wills it”. How would such a knight pay for fruit at the market one might ask? Well he sure didn’t have Photo Checks of him and his horse riding into the sunset. Maybe you might think that it would be simpler to just carry around gold coins, but wouldn’t it be awful to have your life savings stolen at the tip of a sword or mace simply because you have to carry it with you. Some peasant could come up and steal everything you have. If only they had photo checks back in the middle ages, they might have saved many a poor peasant from being robbed by dark knights and bandits – after all it would be hard to explain why one’s face doesn’t match the image on the checks to the local blacksmith.
Bank Checks are much safer than carrying gold coins whether a knight has a photo check of them slaying the enemy on their Crusade to Jerusalem or not. With the security features of checks, a knight could hand out checks to children in the streets and they would not be able to cash those checks for gold pieces or food if the merchant were to ask for a photo identification of thus said knight. It might be a bit easier to get paper out than gold coins out of a knights suit, one is not sure still to this day but historians suggest it would probably be so. The watermarks on checks make it so that they are hard to create more of the same check if someone of an evil nasty nature wanted to make more checks and steal the knight’s hard earned money. As where if they were carrying gold, not a single merchant would care to ask if that gold really belonged to that person buying the food or goods from the market.
If only they had checks in the middle ages – life would have been so much easier. A knights wages would have remained his own, and bandits would have had a lot tougher time robbing and thieving along dark wooded forest paths. As much as technologies seem to make things more complicated, they also make some things a bit easier for the human race. Checks have made it possible for the world to transfer money almost instantly through paper and now we have the check card but people cannot always send their checking card through the mail or give it to a few hundred employees or knights to swipe. Checks are still a popular method of paying people these days or sending money through the mail. The digital age has given humanity many wonderful things and has made the world a truly better place. Maybe the next time you’re thinking about how much better and more romantic the middle ages might have been, just look at your checkbook and you might be inclined to think again.
