Slicing Oneself and other Teenage Troubles
A lot of people can probably agree that the type of person you are in your teenage stage will define what you will become for the rest of your life. This is where the little child has learned all the basic actions needed to be undertaken for survival, and that it starts to seek what else he can do in his stretch of upcoming years. What makes this a sensitive phase is that the teenager begins to ask a lot of questions regarding his identity and purpose in life. Such a stirred-up soul is a vulnerable target for misbehavior, identity crisis and other examples of conflict.
Because teenagers have not had enough experience with dealing big problems that are often encountered by adults, they will usually be immobile when faced with huge responsibilities. This happens so often that it has in fact become forgivable for them to commit irresponsible mistakes in their efforts of trying to run away from the threatening severity of reality and to go back in search of their blissful childhood. Inevitably, they will have to accept the fact that they are about to become grow-ups so they will need to act more responsibly. Examples of conflict that they may encounter are:
. Menstrual period – When a young girl gets her first period, she will usually feel very afraid because incessant bleeding just doesn’t happen everyday to a person. To help the confused girl, an adult must think of discussing to her about the background of menstruation.
. Group rape – Usually, teenagers are very unmindful of their actions and the consequences that might arise from them. A teenager should be taught the right methods of dealing with their sexual urges so that they don’t end up ruining the lives of others with rape.
. Wrist-cutting – There are some people who are fond of cutting themselves because it gives them a certain sensation of pleasure. This must not be allowed to progress further in a teenager’s life because it is very life-threatening.
. Internet bullies – With cyberspace being used as a tool to communicating in real time without meeting in real space, we are offered with loads of opportunities. Unfortunately, some crooks use this opportunity to exploit on innocent individuals and bully them for their own pleasure.
. Organizations with hazing – Sometimes, when a teenager is to narrow-minded to consider other options, he will be lead to believe that joining organizations that practice hazing is the only way to be part of something significant. School counselors must put emphasis on discussing this particular issue with teenagers to prevent any life-threatening activities from occurring.
You can’t solve a problem unless you inspect beforehand the origin of it. This same principle applies when you’re trying to guide a teenager into a better path; as with any holistic course of action, the discussion must come before the implementation. Read more about what is rape and hazing
