Popularity of Breast Enhancement
The popularity of breast enhancement is quite evident by the fact that the cases for breast implant have increased more than three times since 1997, when it was just one hundred thousand. Women undergo breast enhancement surgery to get their breasts enlarged with silicone and saline implants. After the mastectomy, most of the cancer patients also prefer this technique. Breast implants were sold in the US in 1960; however, the process was not much popular till 1980’s.
Almost one million women had got the breast enlarged through the gel silicone implants, mostly preferred by the breast augmentation surgeon. Silicon get implant was approved in 2006. Previously, it was restricted to the cancer patients and the women with broken implants. Whether it is plastic surgery or cosmetic surgery, every surgery comes with a lot of pain. In the breast implants, there are some complications like infections, regular breast pain, nipple numbness, breakage and capsular contraction. A detailed study on the breast enhancement shows that three out of four breast cancer patients, who had gone through the breast reconstruction surgery and half of the first time breast implant patients, had one common complication like pain, infection and hardening. There are some common complications; nipple can lose their sensitivity or they can become painful. Some women find it very inconvenient while sexual intimacy as the implants can have a sloshing voice.
At times, the scar tissues around the implants become very tough causing capsular contraction. Since the scar tissues are inside the skin they can make breast very hard and disfigured and it is very uncomfortable.
The Institute of Medicine says that women with any kind of breast implants or surgery are prone to insufficient milk supply for breastfeeding. Though there has been a lot of research to make it less painful. Breast augmentation surgeon sometimes advises you to have gummy bear breast implants; these implants have thicker silicon. Since they are thicker than the other gel implants, they break or leak less than any other implants. However, there is no study which shows that these implants, being thicker, cannot break and leak or cause less pain. It has been found and observed by the researchers that the breast implants can cause health, cosmetic and financial risks and these risks increase with the passage of time.
