Who is Doctor Who’s Sexiest Companion?
Doctor Who, has had the good fortune throughout his various incarnations to travel with some very foxy friends. There is no denying it, The Doctor’s companion is one of the many reasons we tune in week after week. Can you think of Doctor Who, without a companion? It would be a bit boring wouldn’t it?
In the old series, I’ve often wished that a little love story would blossom, but the authors considered the close relationship to be one of friendship rather than anything else. There was always a warmth between the Doctor and his female companions but never any romance. The sixth Doctor played by Colin Baker went further than just being a friend. He made demands of his companions and showed a superior and patronizing Doctor often cursing that he would rather have nothing to do with humanity. About as far from romance as you can get!
A lasting romance between our hero and his companions was taboo. The new series of Doctor Who though shows that when it comes to feelings, Gallifreyans are not so different to humans. Things have heated up a bit on the romance front and it is nice to see. A story of love blooms between The Doctor and Rose. But the universe conspires against them and alas it cannot be permanent. It’s almost as if whenever the Doctor finds true ever lasting love, then the story would end.
The closest we come to seeing this is when Rose and the duplicate Doctor from Journey’s End spend the rest of their lives together in a parallel universe, with the second Doctor made human – aging and unable to regenerate. But our hero ends up alone.
The loneliness of the Doctor is necessary to the storyline and fulfillment of his loneliness can only ever be temporary, or the story ends. The Doctor feels loneliness more than anyone else though as he also believes he is the only one of his species still in existence following the war with the Daleks.
This is an immense loneliness that pleads for compassion from us and adds a new layer of sadness to the Doctor’s character. It also adds a dimension of respect and reverence.
So we settle it seems for the brief interactions between the hero and his companions, and he has had some beauties.
