Harry Potter films look magic on Blu Ray
When J.K. Rowling began writing about the life of an orphaned boy wizard, it was merely to pass some time during a delayed train ride from Manchester to London. Little did she realise her books would become an instant success, only to be vividly captured on the silver screen by Warner Bros Pictures years later.
Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the final book of the seven-part fantasy series, but has been divided into two films to do the final instalment justice. Deathly Hallows: Part One has just been released on DVD and Blu Ray.
The story follows Harry Potter and his friends as they embark on a treacherous journey to destroy the Horcruxes, the cause of Lord Voldemort immortality. Though the film is separated into two parts, the movie was filmed in its entirety over the course of one and half years. The cast consisting of Daniel Radcliff, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint sadly wrapped up their roles as Harry, Hermione and Ron respectively in June 2010 when filming ended.
In the United States, the film grossed $24 million for its midnight session alone. For its opening day in States, it made yet another $61.7 million, the most successful opening day for a Harry Potter movie and the fifth highest single day gross ever recorded. Around the world, the film made $330 million for its opening weekend, making it the fifth most profitable movie of all time.
But the movie’s success wasn’t limited to the box office. The film was nominated for ‘Best Art Direction’ and ‘Best Visual Effects’ at the 83rd Academy Awards in 2011. It was also nominated for ‘Best Special Visual Effects’ and ‘Best Make-up and Hair’ during the 64th BAFTA Awards.
