First, did you know that by cooking your very own meal, not only helps you save money, but also helps you lead a healthy life? A recent study in the U.S proved that ready made or ready-to -cook meals bought in boxes from the supermarket cost more than regular, fresh vegetables or meat. Imagine the amount of chemicals that must have been included into ready-made meals to make them, well, ready made! You are actually paying extra per unit for these chemicals! Try to include more vegetables into your meals because vegetables cost less than meat and poultry. Not only are you saving cash, you are actually eating healthy!
The next obvious trick is to carpool. Weather you are heading to school, work or even to do some grocery shopping, why not carpool with your neighbors? Take turns sending your kids to school. If one of your neighbors is heading to the supermarket, why not ask for a lift? Return the favor another day. Another way is to make full use of public transportations. If you are headed somewhere nearby to run an errand, why not just walk, or ride a bicycle? Again, not only are you saving up on car maintenance or fuel expenditure, you are also leading a heart-healthy lifestyle. Do not keep an extra car or two in the garage, just in case, if you don’t need it. Get rid of it!
A recent survey suggested that most people rushing off to work prefer buying coffee from Starbucks as a substitute for breakfast compared to any other coffee outlets. These latte, coffee and cappuccino habit can cause you a fair amount of money. Why not give up your addiction for expensive coffee when you can make your very own caffeine in a cup at home! This way, you can save a dollar or two everyday!
Start a piggy bank, literally. Everyday, you are left with a few cents in your pocket. Instead of just tossing them into the drawer or around the house, why not start a habit of saving them into a piggy bank. A few cents a day will add up to a lot one day! Do not underestimate the value of a few cents!
Do save up on water and electricity. Switch off the lights or the fan when not needed. Why use the air conditioning when you can use the fan? Air conditioning can cost you a bomb. Open the windows to increase ventilation and to increase the flow of natural wind. Close the tap when you are brushing your teeth. Use the washer and the dryer only when you have a full load. By tossing only a few things into the washer or dryer, you are wasting water and energy. This not only allows you to save up on money, but also help the environment.
