Versatility of Plastic Wares – A Real Boon
Plastic wares are everywhere today, aren’t they? Take the example of a chair on which we sit or a bucket used for taking a bath. Well anything made out of plastic is called a plastic ware. Be it a bottle cap, pipe, jars, cases, foams, coatings, rollers, toothbrushes etc; all these come under the same category. Well they have absolutely conquered the market today. But they have also carried with them some environmental hazards.
Plastic is present in a semi-fluid mode. It can then be changed into any given form by applying the processes. A plastic ware is produced by moulding plastic into desirable shapes and sizes. They may also be produced by recycling a waste plastic ware. These useful wares do not degrade and hence pose a threat to the environment. To avoid this, they are recycled. Processes such as heat compression and depolymerisation may be used for this purpose. It is difficult to recycle a plastic containing large amount of fillers and other additions. Hence many such wares are usually too complex for this process.
Cost effectiveness and comfort are the main characteristics of these wares. Well they are available pretty cheaply in the market. A plastic tumbler is always cheaper as compared to a steel one. Also they are pretty easy to use. That is one of the main reasons why they have been used extensively for the past decade. They do not break easily as well. Compare this to a glass item, which by mistake if falls to the ground is shattered into pieces. Plastic wares are thus tough as well. These wares are also immune to corrosion. As such they get the upper hand over iron and aluminium items, as they have better resistance to corrosion.
Plastic wares are being used on a large scale in day-to-day world. It’s important to realize that disposal of such items is hazardous to environment. A broken chair or a disposable plastic cups must not be thrown away, as these items do not disintegrate. Hence they stay in the environment degrading it further. Proper use and disposal of plastic is essential to conserve environment and related issues. One such remedy is a recycling process. Many such plants have been set up. Plastic wares though inexpensive and extremely useful must be used carefully! There is certainly no doubt about the quality and versatility of plastic wares, but using them in a efficient way is the best option.
