New Audi Q3 – for the city

Audi has now added a third member in its Q range, the Audi Q3 is intended to offer all the benefits of an SUV but in a more compact and city friendly form. The Q3 was unveiled at the Shanghai Motor Show, where Audi boasted about its 50mpg+ fuel efficiency and all the advanced technology packed into it.

Audi has created a compact crossover to compete with the likes of the BMW X1 and Nissan Juke, the Q3 has a rugged SUV body with dimensions that favour urban use, and underpins these with an agile chassis with increased ground clearance and the all-weather reassurance of quattro all-wheel-drive. In an unconventional move for Audi the new compact crossover will also be available in 2-wheel drive format. Audi has also made the Q3 very light, the 2.0-litre TDI, 140PS version with manual transmission will weigh in at less than 1,500kg – a remarkable figure by SUV standards.

The Q3’s 50+ mile per gallon have been achieved by many modern factors such as an impressively low drag coefficient of 0.32, and low rolling resistance tyres, engine start-stop, energy recuperation and electromechanical power steering systems.

Three engines will be available on launch, all combining direct fuel injection with turbo charging – the 2.0-litre TFSI petrol unit in 170PS and 211PS forms and the 2.0-litre TDI with 177PS. The top ranking 2.0-litre TFSI unit powers the Q3 from rest to 62mph in 6.9 seconds and on to a top speed of 143mph. Following the launch the 140PS 2.0-litre TDI will be offered in the entry level front-drive Q3.

The Q3 will be available in the UK from June this year and will be priced at £25,000, if you are interested in the Q3 watch out for Audi offers in Preston to make sure you get a good deal.
