Renault Exhibits electric cars

The trend these days for car manufacturers seems to be to produce electric, hybrid, low emissions and low fuel consumption vehicles. We have large manufacturers like Nissan producing electric vehicles such as the Leaf. We also have manufacturers like Ford producing traditional fuel powered but highly fuel efficient cars like the Focus ECOnetic. Some manufacturers are also experimenting with hydrogen cell vehicles, but main stream production of Hydrogen cars is still a few years away.

At Fleetworld Electric Vehicle Showcase at the National Motorcycle Museum in Birmingham, Renault unveiled the Fluence Z.E. and Kangoo Van Z.E. Both of these vehicles are plug in electrics, powered by electricity from the mains. Reservations for the Renault Fluence Z.E. begin in June 2011, with UK prices and specifications being announced at the same time.

Private and business user customers looking to buy cars in Sussex are already starting to show interest. The Renault Fluence Z.E. pricing in Europe has already been unveiled at 26,000 Euros, the equivalent of £17,000 after the UK Government’s plug in car grant. Fluence Z.E. has a spacious interior, cutting edge technology and a quiet motor.

Darren Payne, Renault UK’s Director of Fleet and Commercial Vehicle Operations, was impressed with the response experienced at the show, he commented, “It’s very exciting for us to be able to start letting business customers get behind the wheel of our Z.E. range so they can see for themselves all the intrinsic benefits of driving and running electric vehicles.”

He continued, “Drivers rated the performance and lack of noise very highly and were particularly impressed with the comfort, quality of finish and the fact that they both drive like conventional diesel and petrol-powered models.”
