Being a white van man
Since I lost my job at the Bank I’ve been working as a courier in London delivering commercial van parts to garages. It’s not ideal but at the moment it’s better than sitting at home and moping around. I’m really enjoying it a well, it’s an easy job which does not cause me a lot of stress, the money is decent and I get to spend a lot of time out and about. I don’t know if I’ll be able to sit behind a desk now with 8 hours a day.
Driving around London I get to see a lot, this past week I’ve seen the city get quieter and then saw the people flocking in for the Royal wedding. I had Friday off but Thursday was great fun, the streets were fairly empty but everyone was in a good mood. There were foreigners here to celebrate the wedding and people queuing up and camping around Westminster Abbey.
The weather has been really nice so the radio has been up; there are some great tunes out at the moment! I really enjoying driving but traffic jams can get me a little frustrated, I usually take my breaks at the peak of rush hour just to avoid the bottle necks around town.
I use to despise white van men, I still do, but I have more respect for them now. We work on tight schedules and have to be at places at certain times or face a telling off from the controller. I’ve been good and not had to do too many scary driving moves!
