Eurovision Song Contest

Eurovision is a massive betting event and there is huge interest from both professional gamblers and once a year bettors on the contest, with many people looking to back their favourite song, or support their country.

Almost all bookmakers will, therefore, devote sections of their websites over to the Eurovision Song Contest and it is easy to find Eurovision tips both online and in newspapers.

This year the song which is being well backed and has been made favourite by the bookies is France’s entry “Sognu” by Amaury Vassili. The Corsican singer was the popular choice in his homeland with Pierre Sled, supervisor of France 3 describing the Amaury as an “angel of music with a powerful voice”.

France will, however, face stiff competition in the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest from the entries from the UK and Ireland. Both nations have put forward established ‘pop stars’ as their representatives, with the selections being made by a public vote.

Blue, who had a series of number one hits in the UK charts at the turn of the century, disbanded as a group in 2005 after advice from pop legend Elton John. After varying success as solo artists they decided to re-form in 2009 and see Eurovision as a perfect place to re-launch their careers. They are currently the second favourites to win this year’s Eurovision and are being well backed by punters both at home and across Europe. Ladbrokes bookmakers have reported the Blue will be the shortest priced act ever to represent the UK.

Ireland’s representatives are the opinion splitting Jedward. The twins from Dublin were the subject of a huge number of Eurovision bets when it was originally revealed that they were planning to enter The Late Late Show’s competition to choose the nation’s entry. The 19-year-olds rewarded those who backed them and their campaign to bring the Eurovision trophy back to the Emerald Isle is gathering pace, with bookmakers cutting their Eurovision odds on an almost daily basis. Jedward will sing a song entitled “Lipstick” which they will also release as the first single from their second album.

There is also a good deal of market support for the entries from Azerbaijan, Estonia, Hungary and last year’s winners, Germany with almost ?500,000 already wagered on betting exchange betfair on the winner of the 2011 Eurovision Song Contest.
