Childrens orphanage creates new jobs
Young lovers from Cap-Haitian could finally marry
Fourteen months after the catastrophic earthquake, the Haitian people are trying to find confidence in their future: Jacquesson Mexil (27) and his wife Guernise Jean Baptiste (22) finally celebrated their wedding in Cap-Haitian at the beginning of April 2011. Due to one of the worst earthquakes of the century, and a cholera epidemic, the Christian couple had to postpone their wedding again and again. But it finally took place!
Thanks to their new jobs as managers and carers of the children’s orphanage “Cap-Haitian” and the support of the Swiss Foundation “Black Rain Group” in Zurich, they now each have an income of US$ 200 per month and could, therefore, turn their dream into a reality. This happy couple stands for a new Haiti – for courage, awakening and a new beginning. Together with ten employees, they take care of twenty-one orphans from Port-au-Prince and thirty elderly people in a retirement home in Milot, in the north of Haiti.
Jacquesson Mexil explains: “For years I had been trying to earn my living as a tour guide, but who comes to Haiti for holidays? Now, due to the devastating earthquake, we have found our dream jobs! Who knows? Maybe a future Haitian Prime Minister will grow up in our orphanage!”
Hope dies last: Monthly donations of around US$ 5000 allow the Black Rain Group to secure the survival and future of about sixty people in Haiti.
