At Time You Might Be Required To File a Claim against the Moving Company
Sometimes relocations do not go the way they have been planned. It is the responsibility of the moving company to deliver the goods and items of the customer in the same condition they have been packaged. It is however the duty of the customer to ensure that the job has been done as promised. One should be equipped with the requisite ideas and knowledge of the work processes in order to file a claim in case of dereliction of duty on the part of the moving company.
If the circumstances demand, one must go ahead and file a claim. The first step would be to get in touch with the agent who had handled the move so as to request for the particular paperwork. The moving company crew might offer to report a claim themselves who must not be relied upon because distractions and other issues are likely to come in the way. The onus is on the customer to personally contact the company so that the claim process is initiated.
The damaged belongings must be isolated and retained securely and then made available for inspection. Sometimes, crushed boxes or broken glasses could be discarded once snaps have been captured. It is however advisable to consult the company beforehand and acquire something in writing in this regard as a proof.
At the point of delivery, if the damaged goods and items were noticed or discovered, it would be prudent to have them taken note of by the crew then and there. This assumes greater significance especially if the packaging part was accomplished by the customer himself/herself. This would serve as a strong case in point to hold the packers and movers company liable for the damages. Eventually, the movers and packers company would want to have the customer list all of the lost or damaged goods and items on a company claim form. Once duly filled, it needs to be returned at the earliest for claiming the damages to the customer’s satisfaction. Normally, the moving company allows nine months before the claim form is submitted. As they say a stitch in time saves nine.
